Welcome to the Party Pal!
Every new job has a moment.
Not the offer letter. Not the first day paperwork. Not the tour of the office.
The moment I'm talking about is the one where someone - unprompted, without any obligation - decides to make you feel welcome. Like you made the right call. Like you're going to be okay.
Steve Pantaleo was one of the very first people I met when I started. He didn't have to go out of his way. He just did. He “showed me the ropes”, gave me the lay of the land, and made a brand new person feel a little less like a brand new person.
That's not a small thing. Anyone who's ever been the new guy - in any job, in any industry - knows exactly what I mean.
Twenty-plus years later, Steve has built something impressive. As WWE's global footprint has grown from a regional wrestling promotion into a genuine worldwide entertainment brand, Steve has grown right alongside it. He's carved out deep expertise in licensing, working closely with some of the biggest names in the business - talent whose brands extend well beyond the ring.
Versatile. Reliable. Creative. Funny as hell.
That's Steve.
Running into him in Vegas was one of those full-circle moments that remind you why you go to these things in the first place.
You show up thinking it's about the sessions, the panels, the networking. And then you're standing in a hallway catching up with someone you've known for two decades (as Sergeant Slaughter walks by no-less, yes really) and you realize - this is the meeting. This is the one that matters.
The people who showed up for you early in your career? They deserve to be celebrated.
Steve Pantaleo is one of mine.
This is part of an ongoing series - Five Days in Vegas: Where Every Conversation Was the Right One - where I'm sharing the stories, reconnections, and unexpected lessons from a recent trip that reminded me why relationships are everything.
More soon. - Jon
